A little about Kaiten.
Good food brings people together.
Kaiten is our take on a classic Japanese sushi train: Fresh plates, big flavours, and a place for everyone in Christchurch to feel at home.
Three people, one shared idea.
Kaiten was founded by three of us who’ve always loved great Japanese food and the way it brings people together. Our head chef Tony has over 30 years’ experience cooking Japanese food in Christchurch, and his skill, care and consistency is at the heart of everything we do.
We opened Kaiten to make fresh, authentic Japanese food more accessible. A place where friends, family and our local community can enjoy high quality sushi, ramen and more, in a relaxed and welcoming setting.
The right place came around.
After a lot of late night conversations, we discovered the sushi train space at the Crossing was for sale and it just felt right. A central space, close to the heart of Christchurch, with the perfect setup to bring our idea to life.
With a bit of vision, a lot of hard work, and the support of our amazing community, Kaiten has opened it’s doors and quickly become a local favourite.
Made for one more plate.
Kaiten is all about variety, quality and simple joy of choosing what catches your eye. Fresh sushi on the train to hearty ramen and house-made desserts, there’s always something new to try.
